And beautiful. And interesting. And ... just wait for sale and buy it.. Aztaka is a enjoyable game with a solid soundtrack and fantastic artwork. It features a fairly unique combat system (or at least one that I had not come across before) a decent story with plenty of gameplay and exploration to be had; however, the game did get glitchy toward the end.The main issue being that the screen would go black obscuring almost everything in the background, yet you can still see and move Huitzilo around. The reason for the negative review is although I have defeated Ehecalk and obtained the six phonograms, when I try and end the game by speaking with Axayacalk, it only opens the left door where the Ancestral Armor is found, even though the armor is equipped it still shows up on the statue each time you go through the door. The right door does not open, which means that you can't finish the game. This was disappointing as I did enjoy playing the game, but not being able to complete it leaves with a great sense of annoyance. If you can handle putting in a 8-12 hours and not being able to complete it, buy this game as it is fun.If not being able to finish the game would drive you insane, do not buy this game.. Not bad, not bad at all. I don't often see games with an Aztec-themed setting, and this one is nicely done. The game sets you as a young descendant of the sun god, and with the help of a spell-caster trapped in hummingbird form, you set out to recover seven phonograms and destroy an evil god that is causing havok in the area. The writing isn't too deep, but it's decent and enjoyable, as is the gameplay. Aztaka is a sidescrolling RPG platformer, meaning you're going to be doing a lot of running left and right and jumping on things, with the addition of buying or otherwise acquiring skills, spells, and equipment. The spells themselves are kind of interesting as they are not cast with a button press. You have to select the spell and then click a series of buttons in a patterned sequence to set it off. In addition, there are four types of energy that can be collected and used to heal yourself, replenish MP, or interact with the world in certain ways. For example, the one that heals you can also grow tree limbs, which you can use to access higher places or equipment and skill drops just out of reach. The rate at which you gain new skills and spells is pretty well-balanced, coming in at a decent rate, though to be honest I found most of them to be of limited use. Certainly by the end I was pretty much Superman; any damage I took healed almost as soon as I got it, allowing me to practically curb-stomp everything up to and including the final boss. However, that was near the end and was quite fun by that point. As for artistic design, the painted backgrounds are gorgeously detailed, and the 3D characters and enemies generally work well and don't clash badly, outside of flies which look a bit more pasted in. The music is fantastic, the perfect feel, blending everything together. There are a few complaints, though nothing horrible. The biggest is certainly wall-jumping, an acquired skill that is needed to access crucial parts of the game. The help description is inadequate at best, leading to a great deal of frustration until you either figure it out on your own or someone walks you through it (hint: jump at and touch the wall, then jump without using directional keys, hitting jump as you touch each successive wall). The text-only game ending was also a little bit of a letdown, though to be honest what it described would have probably taken a good deal more resources to show. All in all, this was for me a quite enjoyable game I don't have problems recommending.. I'm torn on this game. I love the way it looks. And I enjoyed the platforming and puzzle solving aspects. The whole having equipment thing could just go...and the combat is terrible. Its almost like this game didn't really know what it wanted to be. I would have LOVED to have seen this game drop the inventory, use solely magic for combat (if it needed combat at all), and focus more giving the world more appeal. While it is pretty to look at, it feels empty at times. For those who have played it, this game reminded me a lot of Valley Without Wind series.. REVIEW UPDATE (GAME COMPLETED 100%) Great game, crashes waaaay too much and has a couple of bugs and glitches, I stand ground on this 7/10 rating, would of been a solid 8.5/10 but the constant crashes and bugs are a let down.Nice game, not really a Metroidvania, it's more of Odallus, Kenseiden or Lecarde Chronicles where the stages are connected thru a mapStory: 9/10 (very nice story involving mayans and aztecs and all those native tribes)Graphics: 8/10 (very nice hand drawn)Music: 7/10 (nice music, very prehispanic even has some chants inside the pyramids levels)/will randomly stop Sound: 6/10 (not too much variety can get repetitive)Controls: 7/10 (a little clunky but good enough, awkard mix between keyboard and mouse to cast spells)Gameplay: 7/10 (this is where the game falls short, it's a mix of many things and doesn't focus in one thing)Overall: 7.3/10 (Recommended, not an outstanding game but not a bad game at all, very buggy to say the least but enjoyable nonetheless) GET IT ON SALE THOUGH, not sure if it's worth full price but totally worth on saleThis game lacks maps so it can get frustrating at times considering at later stages the game becomes a maze, the music stoped playing sometimes and the game crashed on me several times, in fact it's easy for it to crash, just minimizing the game will make it crash. Some enemies are very strong so it might become a chore to kill them not to mention they respawn as soon as you kill them, you will have to grind a lot to level up and take on later enemies.
